Hello, my name is George. I am a weight loss coach and a personal trainer located in Vancouver BC.
I believe my life purpose is to get people healthy and fit. Each day I get a message from one of my clients, I feel so blessed to know I have helped improve another life.
It all began when I was a kid. I started competing in sports at a very young age. Big part of being a competitor is nutrition. We eat to perform. We are like high performance race cars that only use the best fuel. If you don’t use the best fuel, you can’t win. So, from a young age I studied nutrition and exercise. I experimented with what worked and what didn’t work in real life, I was not just studying books.
I have an older sister who was more interested in arts and not so much in sports. She took after our father. Unfortunately, her lifestyle led to gaining a few extra pounds. One day she decided to change and asked me for my advice on how to do it. That was back in 1986 – the beginning of my journey as a weight loss coach.
After my sister achieved her weight loss goal, I started getting requests from her friends and from friends of my parents. I could see how each person reacts differently to exercise and nutrition. Seeing changes in people not just physically but mentally as well has been super exciting because it was like helping people overcome their challenges and win.
My father passed away in my hands at age 47, shortly after I came home from military service. I was doing CPR on him with our neighbour who was a nurse. Unfortunately, there was nothing we could do. He had ruptured an aorta aneurysm.
He was a great father. He worked hard, he loved his kids and his wife. His health however was never on the list of his priorities. He worked long hours sitting at the table, drawing different designs and projects. He smoked two packs of cigarettes every day. He did not exercise and did not pay much attention to what he ate. One year before his death, he was refused a heart transplant. Doctors told him there was nothing they could do because he would not make it through the surgery due to his overall body condition. So, he went home knowing he would die.
After he passed away, it became even more personal. If he just changed his lifestyle a few years prior, he could have still been alive today. I think of him every time I help someone reverse diabetes, get off blood pressure pills or get their cholesterol back to normal.
Growing up doing sports I had one desire only – I wanted to become a world champion. I never thought I would become a weight loss and health coach. But now I am, and I wouldn’t exchange it for anything else!
