Cardio
Is it better to do cardio before or after your workout?
This question depends on what type of cardio we are talking about, high intensity or moderate cardio. When we are losing weight, we are talking about losing fat. You want to keep your muscles and just lose weight. When you do resistance training, whether it be body weight exercises or lifting free weights, you want to get the maximum results out of it. So, if you do high intensity cardio right before your resistance training, you will not be able to perform your exercises with 110% effort level. Therefore, you will not see the best returns on your effort. However, if you do easy cardio and use it as a form of a warm up before you get into your class or workout routine, it can be very beneficial.
So to summarize, cardio can be very beneficial if done as a light warm up prior to your workout routine when performing resistance training. High intensity cardio should be done after all resistance training exercises have been completed. This is a great way to end your workouts and kick your metabolism into gear for the rest of the day!
