Benefits of Cardio Kickboxing

As a previous professional kick boxer and someone who has raised champions as an instructor. I know first-hand about the multitude of benefits training for kickboxing can provide, regardless if you are training to compete or just do a cardio kickboxing session to keep yourself in shape. The following are just a few benefits of using kickboxing as your full body workout.

  • Using multiple muscle groups is great for fat loss

In kickboxing, we kick, punch, duck and block. We use every muscle that moves our skeleton. Using multiple muscle groups in one training session  is proven to be more effective for weight loss than training just one or two muscles per session. Trust me, this comes from over 30 years of personal experience in helping people lose weight and keep it off. I have tried every approach out there and, in my experience, nothing beats full body workouts when it comes to weight loss.

  • Metabolic rate

It is a known fact that full body workouts rev up your resting metabolic rate and keep it up much longer than specific body part training. That is great for burning fat throughout the day.

  • Hormones

Using full body workouts as your choice of training will help you correctly balance your testosterone (anabolic hormone) and cortisol (catabolic hormone) production. Using more muscle groups and using bigger muscles helps you produce more testosterone (If you are female, don’t worry, you will not grow a beard 😊) and less cortisol and adrenaline, thus helping with fat loss and muscle gain. Kickboxing is great for it. When you do a kickboxing class, you will feel muscles in places you have never felt before, this happens due to the unusual trajectory of movements you will have to do.

  • Full body development

All of us have been to the beach and at some point seen that guy with a built torso and legs that look like two sticks. That is the result of training just one or two body parts and neglecting smaller muscles. When you train kickboxing you got no options, but to develop your entire body.

  • Improved brain function

It’s not a secret that exercising is a great stress reliever and I think there is nothing better than kickboxing for you to “Vent out” your stress and frustrations. Exercise stimulates the release of dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin. These brain chemicals play an important part in regulating your mood. If you have ever trained before, you probably remember that you are in a much better mental state after your training. Regular exercise is the best way to prevent depression and other mental disorders.

  • Better energy levels and better sleep

I train every day and I never lack energy. When you exercise, you strengthen your cardio vascular system, get rid of toxins and make your body work more efficiently. That in turn makes you feel full of energy. Exercising improves your sleep. I cannot tell you how many of my clients tell me – “George, I sleep like a baby now!” It is true, physical activity increases time spent in deep sleep, the most physically restorative sleep phase. Deep sleep helps boost immune function, support cardiac health, and control stress and anxiety.
